Frequently Asked Questions

If you’ve sat thinking and pondering about whether hypnotherapy treatment or psychotherapy can work for you, I expect you have questions. Here are some of the most commonly asked questions and answers. If you still have a question, no problem. To be honest, it’s normal to have concerns or worries. Please just get in touch and we’ll have a chat.

Can anybody be hypnotised ?

Yes, anyone can be hypnotised as long as they want to be and have an ability to concentrate. So it is not appropriate for very young children or people with certain mental disabilities. A hypnotherapist cannot force you to go into hypnosis against your will.

How should I choose a hypnotherapist?

Make sure you select a registered member of an accredited organisation such as NCH. The will ensure the hypnotherapist is required to adhere to a strict code of ethics and holds the HPD (Hypnotherapy Practitioners Diploma). This is a a highly respected course which is recognised within the Framework for Higher Education Qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland (FHEQ) and has Open University Approved Credit rating.

Will I be aware of what is happening?

Yes, at all times.

Will I fall asleep?

No, but you will feel very relaxed.

Can I get stuck in trance?

No, you can become fully alert at any time you choose to.

Will I lose control?

No, trance is just deep concentration, where you are focusing one thing but you can change your focus by bringing yourself around whenever you want to.  In an every day situation where you are driving to work and daydreaming about the weekend you would instantly re focus if something ran into your path or if the traffic light turned red and you would easily take the necessary immediate action. This is the same principle in a hypnotherapy session.

How many sessions will I need ?

At Cardiff Hypnotherapy Solutions we see clients for an average of 3-4 times, but sometimes more or less sessions are required. To stop smoking one session of 90-120 minutes duration is usually required. For anything else, that depends on your motivation and desire to change. However, hypnotherapy is an effective therapy and the hypnotherapist will want to help you in the minimum number of sessions possible. You and the hypnotherapist will review your progress so that at any time you can make a valued judgement about how the therapy is progressing.

How often will I need to see the hypnotherapist ?

This depends on the type of problem and on the progress made. The hypnotherapist will usually see you once a week. However some clients see the hypnotherapist once a fortnight or even once a month depending on their circumstances. The first session includes a free digitally mastered hypnotherapy recording for you to listen to between sessions.
